Privacy Policy

Last updated: [INSERT DATE]

[INSERT LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Would You Go Back (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account information.

  • Name (display name, not required to be your legal name)
  • Username
  • Email address
  • Password (stored in encrypted/hashed form — we never see your plaintext password)
  • Profile photo, if uploaded
  • Account role (customer or business owner)

Content you submit.

  • Reviews (whether you would go back to a business)
  • Dish/order recommendations
  • Tags describing your experience
  • Photos you upload
  • Private feedback messages sent to business owners
  • Saved places and lists (e.g., “Want to Try”)

Location information.

If you use the “near me” search feature, we collect your device’s precise geolocation, with your permission, to show nearby businesses. This is requested by your browser and is not collected unless you actively enable it.

Business information (for business owners).

Business name, address, contact information, and related details you submit when adding or claiming a business listing.

Automatically collected information.

  • IP address, browser type, device type, and general usage data collected automatically through our hosting and analytics infrastructure
  • Cookies or similar technologies used to maintain your login session

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Display your reviews, recommendations, and photos publicly as described in our Terms of Service
  • Calculate and display a business’s public Go Back Score
  • Route private feedback to the relevant business owner
  • Provide location-based search results
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and duplicate accounts
  • Communicate with you about your account or the Service
  • Improve and develop new features

3. What We Share Publicly

Certain information you provide is, by design, displayed publicly on the Service:

  • Your username, display name, and profile photo on your public profile
  • Positive reviews (“would go back”), dish recommendations, tags, and photos you choose to attach to a review
  • Aggregate, anonymized counts of improvement tags (e.g., “12 reviewers mentioned wait time”) — without attributing them to you individually

The following information is never made public:

  • Private feedback messages you send to business owners — these are visible only to you and the business owner
  • Your email address
  • Your exact location data
  • Reviews where you indicate you would not go back, beyond the aggregate tag counts described above

4. Business Owner Access

If you claim or own a business listing, you can see aggregate review statistics, dish recommendations, public tags, and private feedback messages submitted about your business. You cannot see the identity of a reviewer unless that reviewer has a public profile and chooses to link their review to it, or unless they identify themselves directly in a private message.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using Supabase, a third-party database and authentication provider. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we may retain certain information as required by law, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements. Reviews and content may be retained in de-identified or aggregate form even after account deletion.

7. Your Choices and Rights

You can:

  • Update your profile information at any time through your account settings
  • Make your profile private or public through your account settings
  • Delete saved places, photos, or reviews you’ve submitted
  • Disable location access through your browser or device settings
  • Request deletion of your account by contacting us at [INSERT CONTACT EMAIL]

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have collected about you
  • Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information — we do not sell your personal information
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

To exercise these rights, contact us at [INSERT CONTACT EMAIL]. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

10. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, which may process your information according to their own privacy policies:

  • Supabase (database, authentication, file storage)
  • Google Maps Platform (geocoding and map display)
  • Vercel (website hosting)

Links to external websites (such as a business’s own website, social media profiles, or OpenTable) are governed by those sites’ own privacy policies, not this one.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or by other reasonable means. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy reflects the most recent changes.
